Now that I have started training again I had to locate my running bag and examine it’s contents. I threw out the old Power Bar wrappers, collected the sticky pennies from the bottom and washed my favorite “after a run soft sweatshirt”. Running bag? Yes, I think every runner needs one while training (it does not have to be fancy… mine like this was purchased at Marshalls at a recession friendly price). [Now this is not to be confused with the plastic disposable bag I would bring on marathon race day with the contents of only what is needed for that day -- more on that in a later post].
A running bag is for training runs when we travel (often only a few towns over) and especially for the long runs we start and finish in the city. It should hold your essentials for taking it on the road. At home, it sits in the cubby next to my running shoes and acts as the central location for all things running. You will be with me on this the first time you are searching around at 4:30 am looking for that Glide.

Running clothes with zippered pockets-why aren’t they everywhere? Isn’t every runner clamoring for them? I covet a pocket for my keys and, on long runs, to carry my ipod and GU (but never in the same pocket: Boston Marathon, 2009).
The fitness retailer, Lucy, understands me. I first encountered Lucy in the hip and green city of Portland, Oregon where the retailer originated as an online site. I was taken by the clothes (running, biking, and yoga) which are vibrant and (kind of) chic. They work for a multitude of body types and age groups.
I own an utterly indispensible salmon colored running jacket (2 zippered pockets-thank you Heidi!) and a pair of running pants (with….2 zippered pockets); the parachute fabric works for most every season and the cut is just right. I recently purchased 2 running shirts (with, count them, 2 zippered pockets!) One is the color of celery, the other a Chinese teal. Both have cap sleeves and a mandarin collar. The technical material has a modish, diamond shaped pattern. They are smart enough to wear out to coffee before a run (if I didn’t run at the god forsaken hour of 5:15 am). [click to continue…]

Shop It To Me Running
This new web service could not only be a recession buster, but a time saver for us busy running women. My savvy niece Devon Ruth sent this to me and I have already signed up. My preferences are noted (Asics Gel Kayano size 9, any bargain running gear in S,M). Fabulous idea for running fashionistas/recessionistas!
