Now that I have started training again I had to locate my running bag and examine it’s contents. I threw out the old Power Bar wrappers, collected the sticky pennies from the bottom and washed my favorite “after a run soft sweatshirt”. Running bag? Yes, I think every runner needs one while training (it does not have to be fancy… mine like this was purchased at Marshalls at a recession friendly price). [Now this is not to be confused with the plastic disposable bag I would bring on marathon race day with the contents of only what is needed for that day -- more on that in a later post].
A running bag is for training runs when we travel (often only a few towns over) and especially for the long runs we start and finish in the city. It should hold your essentials for taking it on the road. At home, it sits in the cubby next to my running shoes and acts as the central location for all things running. You will be with me on this the first time you are searching around at 4:30 am looking for that Glide.
Here is what is in mine: [click to continue…]

It was a great Mother’s Day this year. My son and his girlfriend surprised me by showing up on the doorstep late Friday night (hungry and tired from a week of finals:). They were amused at my declaration to my husband that no present was needed this year as I had already ordered mine online. Running stuff again? “Not just for running, I added…some things for after the run life”…

I love this Nusa Rollover skirt from Athleta ($49.00). It is made of soft Lycra and just pulls on over the body. It can be casual dressed up ( I wore it to dinner with a black tee and embellished slides) or very casual with a tank after a run. It is SO comfortable and I know I will be wearing it often this summer, especially around the pool.
This will be my second pair of Keen Flip Flops. I am often asked about them at lacrosse and soccer games. They are my summer staple footwear. They are sporty and supportive on my sensitive feet. They are waterproof, very durable and feel great after a long run. *Added bonus: they cover those unsightly running toes (that might occur) during training:) Keen Waimea H2 ($59.00) available at Zappos.com
