Running clothes with zippered pockets-why aren’t they everywhere? Isn’t every runner clamoring for them? I covet a pocket for my keys and, on long runs, to carry my ipod and GU (but never in the same pocket: Boston Marathon, 2009).
The fitness retailer, Lucy, understands me. I first encountered Lucy in the hip and green city of Portland, Oregon where the retailer originated as an online site. I was taken by the clothes (running, biking, and yoga) which are vibrant and (kind of) chic. They work for a multitude of body types and age groups.
I own an utterly indispensible salmon colored running jacket (2 zippered pockets-thank you Heidi!) and a pair of running pants (with….2 zippered pockets); the parachute fabric works for most every season and the cut is just right. I recently purchased 2 running shirts (with, count them, 2 zippered pockets!) One is the color of celery, the other a Chinese teal. Both have cap sleeves and a mandarin collar. The technical material has a modish, diamond shaped pattern. They are smart enough to wear out to coffee before a run (if I didn’t run at the god forsaken hour of 5:15 am).
A caveat: Lucy clothes are not hard core. They should have more reflective ability. The zippers on my shirts could chafe on a run longer than 10 miles. On the other hand, there is always a sale of some sort at Lucy’s and I receive monthly email coupons redeemable at all of their stores. Currently, there are 64 Lucy stores nationwide and a very user-friendly online site (www.lucy.com).
We have to wear something while running, so why not run with a little panache?… thanks to Lucy!
